Electrical contractors are not required to be licensed. However, electrical contractors are required to be registered with the City of Rockford. Registration is per calendar year which is renewable on Jan 1. To register a fee of $25.00 or proof of current registration or license with another Illinois municipality is required.
Building permits must be posted where visible from the address street or at the primary entrance to the structure before any work begins. No inspection will be performed without the posting of permit. Inspections must be requested 1 full business day or 24 hours in advance.
- Electrical service – following backfill of foundation and completion of service installation
- Underground/floor slab – following installation and prior to covering with soil or slab
- Rough-in – prior to covering work in walls, ceilings or soffits
- Final – following completion of all work and prior to building final inspection and occupancy.
Elevator and Escalator Permits
Elevator permits from the State of Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshall are required for the installation or alteration of any elevator, platform lift, escalator or moving walk.
