Citizen Police Academy

The mission of the Citizens Police Academy is to build cooperative relationships between citizens and the police through training and education. The police academy produces a network of informed citizens who can return to their neighborhoods to organize, encourage and mobilize others, and to partner with police in reducing crime in Rockford. The course curriculum includes sessions on patrol operations, 911 center operations, community policing, crime prevention through environmental design, crime analysis, criminal law, and city ordinances, among others. Interested citizens must be 18 years of age or older to participate.

Summer Programs

The Rockford Police Department has a number of activities planned for youth this summer.

2019 Community Kids Zone: Join the Rockford Police Department for cooking classes, volleyball, basketball, art, games, field trips and so much more — all for FREE! 

  • June 10 – June 14 , 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. (East High School, 2929 Charles Street)
    Age Group 9 – 12, Mondays & Wednesdays 

         Age Group 13 – 17, Tuesdays & Thursdays

  • June 24 – July 12, 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. (East High School, 2929 Charles Street)

          Age Group 9 – 12, Mondays & Wednesdays

          Age Group 13 – 17, Tuesdays & Thursdays

2019 Youth Police Academies: The Youth Police Academy is designed to introduce students to the law enforcement community in a variety of fun and informational ways — for FREE! 

2019 Winn-Rock Youth Police Camp: The Winn-Rock Youth Police Camp is newly created through a collaborative effort between the Rockford Police Department, Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department, and Rockford Police Benevolent and Protective Association Unit #6. The camp runs from July 8 – 12th at Rockford University and is open to kids 12-16 years old. There are only a handful of spots still open for this year’s the camp, but anyone who is interested should fill out the 2019 application by clicking here.

2019 Safety Camps: These camps are FREE and teach kids safety lessons on a variety of topics including bicycles, bullying, fire, water, animals and more!
