The Office of Professional Standards evaluates the Department’s policies, procedures and training.  OPS also performs investigations of internal matters through objective and comprehensive investigations into the department or employee misconduct. The OPS safeguards the integrity and professionalism of the Department.

In an effort to increase transparency with the community, the Rockford Police Department has created an open data portal that shows the department’s personnel complaints and outcomes over a 24 month period. While this data was previously available through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) process, we wanted to be more transparent to the community that we serve.  Please click the following link for the portal:  https://rpdops-rockfordil.hub.arcgis.com/

Community Mediation Program

Mediation is a voluntary process where a trained mediator, who is not an employee of the City of Rockford, acts as an impartial third party to facilitate a mutually agreed upon and non‐adversarial meeting between a citizen and an employee of the Rockford Police Department. This process is a tool to resolve disputes with respectful, tolerant negotiation and constructive communication.
